*Minister of PKP: BPS Data is the Foundation for Targeted Distribution of Subsidized Housing*
Jakarta – Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) emphasized the important role of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as the foundation for the formulation and implementation of national housing policies, particularly those related to subsidized housing programs. Minister Ara conveyed this message while attending the National Statistics Day Awards on Friday (9/26/2025).
According to Minister Ara, the Ministry of PKP is one of the largest users of BPS data. This is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive that all ministries and institutions use only official BPS data as their sole reference. “Perhaps the ministry that uses BPS data the most is the Ministry of Housing and Settlements. In accordance with the.
President’s directive, we are required to use BPS as our sole source of data,” he said.
He assessed that BPS currently has a new, more open face, without losing its methodological principles and integrity. “There is a new face of BPS that is open, but has strong principles. Its methodological integrity is accountable. My hope is that BPS will become more credible, stronger, and of course, its budget will also increase. Because BPS assesses the performance of all ministries and institutions,” he said.
Minister Ara added that the strength of BPS data is very important because it can be used by various parties, ranging from ministries, investors, non-governmental organizations, to academics. “These measurable indicators can be used by anyone. Investors can use it, NGOs can use it, intellectuals can also provide criticism and appreciation based on data from BPS,” he emphasized.
On that occasion, Minister Ara also mentioned the achievements of the subsidized housing program, which exceeded its target thanks to the support of BPS data. “I just checked, and now around 60 thousand workers have received subsidized housing. This is all thanks to the strong database from BPS,” he said.
The Minister of PKP also announced plans for a mass agreement for 25,000 subsidized houses, which will be attended by President Prabowo Subianto on Monday. “We ask for the support of all parties. On Monday, the President will attend the mass agreement for 25,000 subsidized houses. This is clear evidence that the housing ecosystem can run well if it is supported by credible data,” said Maruarar.
Closing his remarks, Minister Maruarar reiterated his appreciation for the BPS. “I believe the BPS is on the right track. I pray that the BPS will be increasingly trusted, increasingly vibrant, and remain the primary reference for national development,” he concluded. (Jay)
